2 Questions for Your Mitzvah Planner that You Won’t Ask But Should

When you talk to an event planner about your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah, you’re going to have a lot of questions, but there’s two questions that you probably won’t think to ask.

When you talk to an event planner about your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah, you’re going to have a lot of questions, but there’s two questions that you probably won’t think to ask and definitely should ask.

Do you accept kickbacks, finder’s fees or referral fees?

Some event planners or party planners have “special” relationships with other vendors, venues or suppliers where they get a cut of your event. At the most basic level, that means that your planner isn’t recommending the best vendors to you. They’re recommending vendors who will pay them to be recommended. They’re either getting a flat fee for bringing your business to a specific vendor or a small percentage of what you buy from the vendor. At a deeper level, it just feels unethical to know that you aren’t getting the full picture.

Will you try to sell me anything besides your services?

Some event planners or party planners offer a host of items that they can “help” you with for your event. Items can include kippot, invitations, favors and more. While it certainly can be convenient to have a one stop shop for items you need, how do you know that you’re getting the best prices and value? Answer. You don’t. Even if your planner gives you a discount, they are still making a profit off of whatever you purchase, guaranteed.

How does Pop Color Events answer these questions?

Do you accept kickbacks, finder’s fees or referral fees?

Nope, nope and nope. How do you know you can trust my answer? I put it in my contract, so it’s completely legal and binding. If any of the vendors I work with offer discounts, I always pass those discounts along to my clients. I believe that a good planner should be able to save you money and should always do what is in your best interest.

Will you try to sell me anything besides your services?

Nope again. I make my money from my planning packages and any add-on services that my clients select. I might not be the cheapest game in town, but there are no hidden surprises and no awkward moments where you feel pressured to buy anything else from me.
