Cori and Spencer’s B’nai Mitzvah in Beltsville, MD

I had so much fun working with Cori and Spencer’s family on their B’nai Mitzvah party at Fox Ventures (now closed) in Beltsville, MD. The family was hysterical and kept me laughing and very well fed throughout the planning process! They wanted an urban club/lounge vibe that would be appropriate for both a boy and a girl. We utilized lavender and midnight blue, mixing the soft and feminine with the gritty and more masculine to tie in the personalities of both of the twins. The warehouse venue with black draping also mixed the soft and gritty. The contrast was really cool.

Aren’t they the cutest family? I love how happy they all look in this photo.

The focal point of the room was an 8′ tall DJ booth with Cori and Spencer’s logo suspended from it. It was a major wow factor and guests kept saying that they’d never seen anything like it before.

The DJ booth lent itself to some amazing photos! And it’s a good thing that the DJ was okay with heights!

A fully stocked 12-foot bar covered in graffiti lent itself to the urban club-feel.

A step and repeat tied together all 3 event logos–one for each twin plus a joint logo.

Unique and yummy desserts were a huge hit! Edible cookie dough shots and bites plus liquid nitrogen ice cream kept the crowd coming back for more.

Olivia’s Colorful Bat Mitzvah at Hyatt Regency Dulles

Olivia and her family were just about the sweetest folks you could imagine (plus they had a major sweet tooth… check out the candy bar!). They chose a colorful palate that encouraged guests to “Liv it up” at the Hyatt Regency Dulles. I love the jewel tones, tassels, oversized balloons and color, color, color!

Olivia’s Dad made the escort card holder and the family made all of the colorful tasseled escort cards. With the balloon accents, that was such a statement piece and guests loved taking their photos in front!

The adult side of the room had different colored balloons with ribbon or tassels, plus intentionally mismatched napkins and chair sashes.

There were 23 different types of candy at the candy bar, just the right number for my sweet tooth! Each glass jar was accented with colorful ribbon and a label.

Lexi’s Dog Bat Mitzvah Party at Westin Tysons Corner

I was so pleased with how everything turned out for Lexi’s purple, dog-themed Bat Mitzvah party at Westin Tysons Corner. Lexi’s mom put so much thought into all of the details and it really showed. Even though they were unable to physically attend the event, Lexi’s family dogs made an appearance in the decor. There were so many photos of the dogs and Lexi with her dogs used throughout the night! Below are just a few of my favorite photos from the Bat Mitzvah party. Maryland Photo/Video had so many great ones!

Guests started by choosing their sparkly dog bone escort cards telling them to “Sit.”

It was a pleasure to work with this family for Lexi’s Bat Mitzvah party and they were pretty happy too:

I hired Brynne and Pop Color Events to help me with the day of my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah party. After working with a different event planner for my son’s Bar Mitzvah, I was skeptical and pretty negative on the help that I would actually receive. I was blown away by Brynne’s organization, assistance and calm demeanor during the week of finalizing details to the day of the event!  I had many details and personal “props” to display for my 200 guests. I filled two SUVs with materials for the party! Along with verbal reassurance that everything would go smoothly, what really helped me calm down and put the reigns in Pop Color’s hands was Brynne’s hands-on approach. She attended the meeting I had with the DJ, she attended the meeting I had with the venue sales and event managers, she assisted me with the unloading of my personal party items, and she spent hours making a detailed inventory list of everything to be sure she not only knew where everything was, but also the inventory was complete. Her actions, more than her words showed that she truly had the party under control. Whether you hire an event planner to help with all of the details or just would like help with the day events, make sure you ask these very important questions: 1) do you attend meetings with some of my vendors and if so, which vendors? 2) how do you organize and will you assist with whatever personal items I have for party (e.g., candlelighting poems, candy bar items, place cards, etc.) and 3) what time will you arrive the day of the party? If the answer to the first question is “no” or the answer to the last question is “an hour before the party begins”, find another planner!  Brynne with Pop Color Events is a complete service from start to finish that will allow you to truly enjoy your guests and the day you’ve spent months (or years) planning!

Lindsey’s Book and Pink Bat Mitzvah Party at DoubleTree Bethesda

I loved working with Lindsey’s family to put together her pink, book-themed Bat Mitzvah party at DoubleTree Bethesda. It was feminine, literary and just plain fun! Lindsey and her mom had a vision and Pop Color Events made it happen with a team of awesome vendors. We can’t wait to work on younger brother Ryan’s Bar Mitzvah in 2019!

The Centerpieces

Oversized pink, silver and glitter-filled balloons had a base of books. Each table was named for a different author–from J.K. Rowling to Stephan King to Dr. Seuss and more.

More tassels in shades of pink and silver were on the bar…

… and surrounding the stairway up to the cocktail area.

The Logo

I loved how feminine Lindsey’s logo was with the pretty script, books and just a touch of bling.

The Mitzvah Project

As part of her Mitzvah project, Lindsey collected books from her guests which were later donated, along with the books from the centerpieces. Lindsey’s friends and family were very generous with their donations!

Just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful job you and your crew did at Lindsey’s bat mitzvah.  The whole day went without a single glitch and we know how hard you worked to pull that off.  God even knows about all the things that went on behind the scenes that my wife and I will probably never even know about.  It was an honor to have our event in your hands on our special day!  Thank you so much for all of your hard work, care, and attention to detail that made everything come together so well!

Lena’s Dance and Purple Bat Mitzvah at Hilton Washington DC North / Gaithersburg

I LOVED working with Lena’s family for her purple and dance inspired Bat Mitzvah at Hilton Washington DC North/Gaithersburg. The family could not have been any sweeter and Lena’s dance friends rocked it on the dance floor! Below are some shots from Anthony Marill Photography of the decor by Pattie Kim of Balloons and Decor.

Lena’s mom had been saving her dance costumes for years and finally found a good use for them… these awesome centerpieces! Each table was named after a different style of dance with one of Lena’s dance costumes proudly displayed.

Oversized balloons hanging from the ceiling and purple uplighting created a really dramatic look.

It was a pleasure working with this family and it sounds like they were pretty happy also!

Brynne knew the answers to my questions before I even asked them. She had an amazing spreadsheet to keep me organized for invitations, guest lists, hotel reservations, gifts and thank you notes etc. She reviewed all of our contracts and caught details that I didn’t and helped us avoid some potential issues. On the night of my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah, I didn’t have to worry about anything and knew that Brynne and her assistant were available for any issues. For instance, my son lost a button on his jacket during pictures and we could fix it immediately. The MC at one point got a little off schedule and Brynne made sure that everything else flowed easily through the evening. No one noticed but us.

Pop Color Events Year in Review 2016

It’s been another incredible year for Pop Color Events!

It started out right in January with Hannah’s Bat Mitzvah at Beth Ami in Rockville, MD. The Broadway theme and her name in lights set the tone for her Opening Night.

In February, I attended a multi-day conference called WeddingWire World. Despite the name, there was lots to learn about non-weddings and I came away with tons of ideas that I was able to implement in my business.

March was Saul’s sporty Bar Mitzvah at Washington Hebrew Congregation in DC where the dance floor was packed all night!

April was a styled shoot at the Loft at 600 F Street in DC, where I collaborated with SUCH a talented team and wound up with gorgeous images that were published on two different websites.Floral and Art Bat Mitzvah at the Loft at 600F in Washington DC | Pop Color Events | Adding a Pop of Color to Bar & Bat Mitzvahs in DC, MD & VA | Photo by Powell Woulfe Photography

It was also Eli’s Bar Mitzvah at Temple Sinai in DC that had so many personal touches–a song by a special group of family friends, a Cuban-style conga, the sweetest montage and more.

June was a doubleheader at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church. First was Lilly’s Bat Mitzvah with centerpieces that were later donated to a soup kitchen.

In July and August, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Vendor’s Forum hosted our first and second networking nights which were huge successes. I met a ton of great vendors who work with Mitzvah families and learned a lot through some informative discussions. Another networking night is being planned for January or February, so stay tuned!

I took it slow over the summer because I was quite pregnant, but I did manage to write an article for Mitzvah Market Magazine which was published in October. In September we welcomed baby Jonah and spent October getting used to being a family of four, as well as getting things together for my November and December Mitzvahs. It was a hectic time, but I wouldn’t have traded it for the world!

I should have photos of these Mitzvahs soon, but until then… Lindsey’s Bat Mitzvah at the DoubleTree Bethesda was feminine, pink and literary. Lena’s Bat Mitzvah at the Hilton Gaithersburg was purple and the centerpieces were her dance costumes through the years. Lexi’s Bat Mitzvah at the Westin Tysons Corner was dog-themed and full of fun little details.

Cheers to 2016! Looking forward to a very full 2017! My calendar is quickly filling up, so if you’re interested in working with Pop Color Events, please contact me ASAP!

Ilene’s Color War Bat Mitzvah at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, VA

I’m so excited to share some of the decor shots from Ilene’s Bat Mitzvah party at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, VA. The family had a very clear vision going into planning. They wanted an event that would make guests think of camp and color wars, but be a bit non-traditional with a band and outdoor games. We took some of Ilene’s favorite colors–shades of purple, green, and blue and ran with it!

The Escort Cards

We divided everyone–adults and kids–into 3 teams. Bandanas wrapped in rustic-looking napkin rings by Cutie Patootie Creations assigned guests to their teams for friendly competition.

Ilene’s family was happy with how the event turned out and so was I!

Brynne gave us the party we wanted, which in some ways was not the typical Bat Mitzvah. We had a vision of doing something different and she made it come to life. Brynne was very organized and very detail oriented. I never worried that anything was being overlooked. Everything went so smoothly on Ilene’s Bat Mitzvah day. I didn’t have to think about any details until it was all over and all the guests had left.

Lilly’s Mitzvah Bat Mitzvah Party at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, VA

I’ve known Lilly and her family for a long time, so it was an absolute pleasure to to work with them for Lilly’s Bat Mitzvah and see what a kind, sweet young woman she’s grown into. Lilly’s family really wanted to focus on the Mitzvah and the Jewish tradition part of the Bat Mitzvah, so we thought through different ways to make that happen. I wanted to share some of the behind the scenes info, as well as some of my favorite images from the day.

The Decor

Lilly loves the colors light blue and lavender and she told me from the start that those were the colors she wanted to incorporate into the decor. We were able to use that color scheme throughout.

In keeping the focus on the Mitzvah itself, Lilly and her parents decided to create centerpieces with a dual purpose. After the event, all of the cans were donated to AFAC, the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Lilly wrote a note which was placed on each table to explain why this was an important cause to her.

Cans also served as the base for balloons in the event’s colors on the kids tables.

In addition to donating cans, the catering company the family chose, New Course, also trains homeless and unemployed people to become chefs and chefs assistants. This was just another way that Mitzvah-related details were included in Lilly’s party.

The Entertainment

Bringing in the Klezmer Band, Lox and Vodka, was one of the primary ways we kept the celebration Jewish. The hora was probably the best one I’ve ever been part of. Every single person was up and dancing.

Hora at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, VA | Pop Color Events | Adding a Pop of Color to Bar & Bat Mitzvahs in DC, MD & VA | Photo by Alison Tremblay

After the hora was Israeli dancing, and, again, every single guest was up and dancing. The circle of guests dancing went all the way around the Social Hall!

In addition to the klezmer music, we also had MC Zack from Washington Talent who kept the dancing and games going throughout the afternoon. The band and DJ worked together seamlessly and guests loved the mix of live and recorded music.

Green Screen

A fancy green screen called the Sketch Book allowed guests to digitally put accessories (from moustaches to sunglasses to hats and more) on their photos. Guests loved the takeaway!Bat Mitzvah Green Screen at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, VA | Pop Color Events | Adding a Pop of Color to Bar & Bat Mitzvahs in DC, MD & VA | Photo by Alison Tremblay

The Pop!

With the help of Cutie Patootie Creations and Corporate Sports, we put together this fun sign in board (which matched her invitations and escort cards)…

and these fun water bottles. The water bottles helped to tie into the focus on the Mitzvah because it encouraged guests to use a reusable water bottle rather than disposable ones. Lilly had a vision for how she wanted the water bottles to look and I think they came out great!

Lilly’s parents were thrilled with how it all turned out:

Using Pop Color for our daughter’s Bat Mitzvah was one of the best decisions we have made. Our event was even better than we expected and we had luxury of actually enjoying it. Brynne was fantastic at keeping us on track at every stage of the planning process. She laid out the choices on all the decisions in a way that made the whole thing manageable. Her expertise and previous relationships with the many vendors saved us time, money and gave us the peace of mind of knowing that we were booking caterers and entertainers with a strong track record. This prevented a lot of stress. Brynne looked over all the contracts to make sure they were in order and for the correct date, timeframe and services. We definitely felt like vendors treated us better since we were dealing with a party planner where there was a previous and future relationship to protect. Brynne had all the answers; from where to buy yarmulkes to how high a centerpiece should be without blocking the view of the person across the table

The week of the Bat Mitzvah was even better. Brynne came to our house to pick up and organize the items and decorations we had accumulated over the previous 12 months. The next time we saw them was at the reception when everything looked amazing. The day of the Bat Mitzvah, the staff at Pop Color Events took care of everything and we were really able to enjoy ourselves at our own party. Brynne had a detailed timeline for the party and made all the vendors aware of it. The photographer knew where to be when something was about to happen and the party timeline went smooth.

I cannot imagine planning and experiencing a Bat Mitzvah without Pop Color Events.

Talia’s Art and Floral Bat Mitzvah Party

With the help of an amazing vendor team, I put together a styled Bat Mitzvah party inspiration shoot with a “Color Outside the Lines” theme. I wanted to share some of the behind the scenes info, as well as some of my favorite images from the day. You can see the full gallery of images here.

The Location

The venue, Loft at 600F, located right near the Verizon Center in Washington, DC was perfect! The staff was so helpful and the modern, industrial vibe kept the Bat Mitzvah party set up from feeling too feminine.

The models, hair and make up and dresses

I had the honor of working with Talia and her amazingly sweet girlfriends for a fun afternoon of pampering, modeling and hanging out. The girls got their hair and make up done by the amazing TCBeauty. It was really important to us that the girls looked their best, but also looked like they were 13. TCBeauty definitely delivered on the hair and make up front, while It’s My Party Consignment helped with dresses that were adorable and age appropriate.

The Desserts

Sabrina at Occasionally Cake outdid herself with the cake, cupcakes, cake pops and cookies that fit the art theme perfectly. Plus, all of us (models and vendors!) enjoyed the leftovers once the shoot was done. Let’s just say, yum yum yummers!

The Pop!

All of the little details came together to make this shoot gorgeous. How about those flowers? EightTree Street came through with the most vibrant, beautiful arrangments that really made the tablescape. And the custom artist palette signage was hand calligraphed by Shrimp Salad Circus.

I’m not sure what it is, but this is one of my favorites. Maybe the logoed pillow from Party Favorites, the black and white pillows with all those pops of color (my favorite!) or how sweet Talia looks lounging?

Last, but not least, those incredible invitations from InvitingLee were the inspiration behind much of what you see. The wording was fun and cheeky, but the look was so sophisticated. Well done!
