There are a ton of resources out there to help plan your Mitzvah and over the next few weeks, I’ll share some great ones along with tips to help use them. This week we’ll discuss Facebook Groups. I will periodically update as new groups form.[last update: 6/12/21]
What are Facebook Groups?
Facebook groups are available to anyone with a Facebook account and allow a forum for people with a similar interest to ask questions and share information. The groups below are wonderful collaborations of parents and vendors, who ask and answer questions regarding planning your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Some of these Facebook groups are geographically specific, but I’ve noticed that there is a ton of transferable information from groups that aren’t in your area though you’ll need to look past some of the local vendor recommendations. You’ll have to request access to join most of these groups, but the moderators are quick to respond and you’ll be a member in no time! Join a few groups and see which you find the most helpful (and feel free to report back to me on this)!
Best Bar, Bat, B’nai and B’not Mitzvah Facebook Groups
Below are some awesome Facebook groups for Mitzvah planning. I’ve included the group’s description straight from Facebook, but please note that in a few instances, I’ve edited the description or added more info for space purposes or clarity. Vendors, please note that many of these groups prohibit advertising your services. Please read the group rules or you may be removed from the group!
Groups Based on Geographic Regions
This group is for people who are planning or have experienced Zoom Bar Mitzvahs. It’s a place for people to feel comfortable stripping away the layers of the Mitzvah they lost and reimagining what is possible in this new, crazy, surreal world. Please ask questions of one another, share advice and stories of your own digital Mitzvahs, and be supportive of each other as we share both our successes and inevitable disappointments. We are all now part of a club we didn’t sign up for, and didn’t want to be a member of, but we are all in it together!
Are you planning a Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the MD/DC/VA area? Or have you done one recently and would like to share what you learned? We welcome questions from parents about all aspects of the party planning and ceremony too. We love the suggestions and helpful advice from other parents and professionals too! Please note that this is not a group for soliciting/advertising vendor services. Vendors who post advertisements or send friend requests to members will be removed and banned from the group. Vendors, if you are unsure if your post would be considered an advertisement or parents, if you feel you are being harassed by a vendor, please contact the group Admin.

I was discussing Bar/Bat mitzvah dates with a number of my friends, and we all concurred that since this community is pretty tight, there may be some benefit in having a FB group, so we can list dates, share ideas and such……We have a pretty good head start, since it is 3-4 years away…..

DIY Bar/Bat Mitzvahs (Nationwide)
This is a place for parents of future Bar & Bat Mitzvahs to come together to share ideas on DIY party planning as well as how to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah on a smaller budget. Many people are deciding to create their own decorations, video montages, and more in order to save money. Everyone can benefit from seeing other people’s ideas. Not everyone is naturally creative so this is also a group where you can see other people’s ideas and not have to come up with your own. We encourage our members to ask questions as well as offer tips. Everyone supports each other here. Lots of people are opting to do some things themselves so that they can save money. Plus it’s fun! This is NOT a place for vendors, please. We want our members to feel free to share ideas for upcoming Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and not to self-promote their businesses. Please join us if you are planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and can benefit from bouncing ideas off of other people.
B’nai Mitzvahs on a Budget (Nationwide)
Bar and Bat Mitzvah Planning and Ideas: Themes, colors, money-saving tips, ETC!
This group was created to help plan your Long Island Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Let’s share our ideas, advice and vendor recommendations.
We wanted to create a group that focused on parents planning Mitzvahs. My first daughter is getting ready to plan her 2017 Bat Mitzvah and I started to look around at places. It would be great to have a place on FB that parents can share their thoughts. You would think being that I own an invitation company that I would have 1000’s of ideas, but it would be great to hear from everyone else. I am hoping for this to be a community of Long Islanders sharing info right down what to wear even as a guest what to give as a present to other peoples parties on Long Island. I would prefer for this to not be heavy vendor focused so if you advertise more than once a month I will remove your post (sorry) and if it is not related to Mitzvahs you will be asked to leave the group (sorry again).
This group is for Los Angeles Bar and Bat Mitzvah information on vendors, online vendors and diy projects. You may post ISO request and recommendations of vendors you like. Please do not bash people and be kind. We also would love to hear from people who are around the country on vendors they used online.
Post Questions, Games, Line Dances, Photos, Videos, anything related to Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s..
A forum where members can share, recommend and give advice on planning Bar/Bat Mitzvahs in the Toronto area. Recommendations and success stories welcomed. Helpful advice needed. Wishing you lots of Simcha!
Join us for a conversation as we aim to re-think b’nai mitzvah so synagogues and their members can focus on what is most important about Jewish living and learning. The B’nai Mitzvah Revolution (BMR) seeks to generate new ideas and modalities of meaningful celebrations of b’nai mitzvah that tie young people and their families more closely to Jewish tradition and the Jewish community. We welcome congregation professionals, parents, lay leaders, and anybody interested in creating meaningful and engaging b’nai mitzvah experiences as part of congregational life. Feel free to invite your friends and colleagues to this group. B’nai Mitzvah Revolution is a joint project of the Union for Reform Judaism’s Campaign for Youth Engagement and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and its Experiment in Congregational Education (ECE). Please refrain from posting commercial advertisements on the wall.
THE BARMITZVAH AND BATMITZVAH PEOPLE (Nationwide)
Andrea Solomon and Michaela Harding felt that part of the Bar/Batmitzvah workforce, we are constantly being asked for our input as to what makes the perfect event and who are the best possible people for the job. Because of this, we decided to start a group so that suppliers can show what they do and prospective clients can see what is out there. Our aim is to bring people together and allow everyone to post feedback and share their experiences pre/post Bar/Batmitzvah. The group is a closed group so that only group members will see your posts. Please can you kindly keep this group Bar/Barmitzvah related only. Thank you.
