When I met with Priya’s family, they shared that they see themselves as 100% Indian and 100% Jewish. It was clear from the start that Priya’s Bat Mitzvah at the Silver Spring Civic Building needed to celebrate both sides of her identity. The result was an incredible party that seamlessly blended traditions, with an Indian fusion menu, vibrant decor in jewel tones and gold, and thoughtful accents like urlis filled with floating petals. Priya’s family wore beautiful traditional Indian saris and menswear, adding even more authenticity to the celebration. It was such a joy-filled event that felt uniquely theirs.
The invitations set the stage, featuring intricate mendi-style accents and photos of Priya through the years.
Purple escort cards, accented with mendi-inspired designs, were displayed on a bold, vibrant blue tablecloth that popped against the room’s colorful palette.
Guests were wowed by the food and drinks, which included a mango lassi bar and Indian fusion food stations.
The decor was vibrant and inviting, with colors like purple, blue, pink, orange, and gold bringing energy and joy to the space. Marigold chains, inspired by the Indian region Priya’s family is from, added a meaningful and traditional touch to the overall design.
Centerpieces included stunning urlis filled with floating flowers, surrounded by the warm glow of candles and playful, colorful elephants. The combination of textures, colors, and light created an atmosphere that felt both festive and intimate.
The entertainment brought the celebration to life. Alongside a spirited hora, Priya’s family and friends treated guests to a choreographed Bollywood-style dance with a breakdancing solo by Priya’s younger brother.
